Consent and coercion exist on a complex spectrum, not in clear-cut categories. Factors like financial pressure, societal expectations, and power dynamics can blur the lines between voluntary consent and coercion, making it essential to understand consent as fluid, context-dependent, and shaped by both personal and external pressures. Recognizing this spectrum challenges us to move beyond surface-level definitions. When we acknowledge the pressures that shape decision-making, we create space for more nuanced conversations that integrate the realities of our lived experiences.

This Black History Month, we honor those who have paved the way for empowerment and autonomy in the sex work community.
