Payment: $33.33/hr
Time commitment: Estimated 5-10hrs per month, max of 10hrs per month
Virtual/Remote: Position can be done remotely/virtually (but being based in the Los Angeles sex worker community is preferred and means you can see us at in-person stuff!)
Start date & length of engagement: ~June 3rd, 2026 (flexible); 1-year anticipated term, renewable contingent on mutual agreement)
SWOPLA is hiring a Bookkeeping Specialist to support our internal record-keeping, budgeting, and reporting practices. The Bookkeeping Specialist would work closely with our Payroll-Bookkeeper, Steering Committee, and team leads to help ensure we always have up-to-date and accurate organization-wide and project-based budgets and to ensure that those systems are capturing all the information that we need for tax and grant reporting-purposes.
The Bookkeeping Specialist’s initial duties will focus on updating our organization-wide budgets and Quickbooks, but soon the focus will shift to project-specific bookkeeping and budgeting. The Bookkeeping Specialist would be expected to act as our in-house expert on Quickbooks and budget-spreadsheets, and work with a wide variety of SWOPLA leaders and projects, so good communication and people skills are as essential as being good with the numbers.
Requirements:
- Significant experience with Quickbooks and spreadsheet software such as Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel
- Experience in creating, analyzing, and/or implementing a budget
- Excellent communication skills
- Around 10 hours of availability per-month to dedicate to the role (although this can go up and down if the average is consistent)
Preferred qualifications:
- Some familiarity with SWOPLA’s organization, structure, and/or services
- Lived experience in the sex trade
- Experience or familiarity with 501(c)(3) non profit tax preparation requirements
- Relevant degrees or certifications will be considered – but are not required!
